We live in the ultimate ‘consumer society’ and many children grow up believing that everything is disposable; today’s gift or present is just tomorrow’s rubbish! (Why a parents' own example is so important?)

• Give each of your children their own tree and ask them to look after and nurture it.
• Get them to record the trees growth each year. (Take a picture of them stood next to it every year so they can look back at what they have achieved).
• Show them what a 25 year old tree of the same type will be like so they can see what their time and effort will eventually achieve.
• Make sure your children understand the long term commitment required by the whole world to ensure we all have a beautiful planet to live on.
